OpenOffice is Sun's full-featured Office suite. It has very similar features to Microsoft's Office, and can both import and export to Microsoft's file formats.

The suite includes a text writer, a spreadsheet editor, a presentation editor, etc.

It's a free and open source product.

The GIMP is a great open source graphical editor. It is often compared to the industry leader, Adobe Photo Shop.
